More About Dr.yancey

CEO & FOUNDER of Virtual Peace of Mind

I work with individuals who may be feeling “stuck”, but are ambitious, proactive, and motivated to make changes in their lives so they are living life joyfully and at peace. I provide a safe and supportive environment to help you gain the clarity you need to understand how your past may have contributed to current challenges, behaviors, emotions, beliefs, relationships; and also shaped you into the unique person you are today. Insight is the first step in empowering you with the skills to make necessary changes to improve your health and how you live your life. It is about showing up for yourself, so you can be the healthiest you can be for yourself, your relationships, your profession, and in your life.

I look at therapy as a partnership, where the therapist and client work together to identify and overcome obstacles that may be preventing personal growth. Over my 30-year career in the mental health field, I’ve learned that every individual has unique strengths that can be leveraged to overcome challenges. My approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a theory grounded in the understanding that our thoughts influence our emotions, which in turn influence our behaviors. By identifying and restructuring negative thought patterns, clients can achieve lasting change and a deeper understanding of themselves.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Regent University, followed by a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University, and a Ph.D. in Counseling, Education, and Supervision from Old Dominion University. These academic achievements have provided me with a solid foundation in both theory and practice, ensuring that I can offer a holistic approach to therapy. My training, paired with my professional experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), a Board Certified Telemental Health Provider (BC-TMH), and a Board Certified Human Services Practitioner (HS-BCP), enables me to support my clients in navigating their challenges from a well-rounded, evidence-based perspective.

Having grown up in a military family and married to a military man, I’ve spent my entire life surrounded by a military community. This background has provided me with a strong sense of resilience, discipline, and adaptability, which I bring into my clinical practice. I understand the complexities of managing life’s transitions and pressures, especially in high-stress environments, and am passionate about helping others navigate these challenges.

In my own personal journey, I have witnessed the power of therapy firsthand. I’ve come to understand that personal growth often requires stepping outside of our comfort zones and addressing not only the obvious issues but the underlying factors that may be contributing to our struggles. When I’m not in the therapy room, I enjoy spending time with my five adult children and six grandchildren, laughing and making memories during Sunday family dinners. I also have a passion for creating designer desserts, a hobby that allows me to express my creativity and enjoy life outside of my professional work. My experiences, both personal and professional, have shaped my approach to therapy, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to help others on their journey toward healing and personal fulfillment.
